Who should use this checklist?

Outgoing and incoming restaurant managers or shift leads should complete the handoff together when possible. Front- and back-of-house leads can contribute station-specific exceptions before responsibility transfers.

When should it be completed?

Prepare the handoff before the outgoing manager leaves and review it early enough for the incoming leader to ask questions. Update urgent changes immediately rather than waiting for the formal transfer.

How to use the checklist

  • Focus the handoff on exceptions and decisions, not a recap of every completed task.
  • Give each open item a named owner and realistic due time.
  • Confirm the incoming manager understands food-safety, cash, guest, and equipment risks before transfer.

Commonly missed tasks

  • Expected deliveries and unavailable items that affect the next menu period
  • Unresolved refunds, discounts, or customer follow-up
  • Open work described without an owner or deadline
